Does the zero-export rule apply to my home rooftop too?
No — the zero-export mandate applies to commercial and industrial rooftop. Residential net metering is still allowed within state caps. But residential customers above 10 kW or with backup needs are still moving to BESS for self-consumption.
Why is Tirupur so heavy on BESS adoption?
Tirupur exporters pay both demand-charge penalties and rolling power cuts. Adding solar gets capped by zero-export. BESS solves both: stores excess solar mid-day for evening shifts, and shaves peak-demand charges. Many Tirupur units are on their second or third BESS expansion already.
What about state-level subsidies in TN?
TEDA (Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency) has run various solar + storage pilot schemes for select sectors. PM Surya Ghar applies to residential. Most C&I commercial projects use the central MNRE CAPEX subsidy plus state-level accelerated depreciation.
