Gujarat leads on solar. BESS is the next layer.

GUVNL has run procurement for solar-plus-storage at utility scale. Surat and Rajkot MSMEs run hot on demand. Gujarat residential and C&I customers know solar — storage is the next conversation.

Gujarat already runs more rooftop solar than any other state. The next round is solar + storage.

Surat textile and Rajkot foundry MSMEs run on heavy diesel today. Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar see steady residential rooftop growth. Torrent (Surat / Ahmedabad pockets) has higher residential rates than GUVNL.

Gujarat · frequently asked

Local questions, answered.

Does GUVNL really allow net metering up to 1 MW?
Yes — GUVNL is among the most progressive DISCOMs in India on rooftop solar policy, with LT consumers eligible up to the LT contract demand cap and HT up to 1 MW. That said, larger installs benefit from storage to handle peak-demand charges and tariff time-of-day variation.
What's the MSME picture in Surat / Rajkot for BESS?
Both clusters run heavy diesel today — textile dyeing in Surat, foundry/forging in Rajkot. Combined with solar, BESS pays back in 3–4 years on a typical 120–240 kVA load. CPCB CEMS enforcement is picking up — instrumentation costs avoid altogether by replacing the DG.
Is Torrent territory different from GUVNL?
Torrent serves parts of Surat and Ahmedabad with higher residential and commercial tariffs. Payback is faster there. Net metering rules generally align with state policy but with Torrent-specific operational nuances.
